Review: The Food Crafters Gluten-free Cookies

The Food Crafters is a new brand of gluten-free cookies that are low in added sugars and refined carbohydrates. There are three flavours in the range: Ginger & Date; Double Coconut; and, Raw Cacao. They were developed "to provide really delicious alternatives for people with gluten and dairy intolerance, and for those who want to keep sugars to a minimum". For sweetness dried fruit, honey, black strap molasses and stevia are all used. Total sugars per 50g cookie is up to 6g which is
excellent compared to your average mass market biscuit. In fact 50g is a very generous size, perfect for a healthy play lunch or after-school snack for kids, and ideal for adults instead of more sugary and low-fibre options.

I like the fact the cookies contain buckwheat kibbles, coconut, natural vanilla, natural flavours and coconut oil in place of butter. The texture on eating is crunchy, chewy and very enjoyable. They certainly are satisfying. The dietary fibre and lower sugar content make these cookies a low glycaemic index (GI) food as well and the good dietary fibre along with the presence of the kibbles will improve the health of your digestive system's microbiome.

For flavour, I particularly like the Double Coconut and Ginger & Date cookies. I'm not fond of the cacao cookies because they have added chocolate flavour which to me spoils the cacao.  Maybe they'll improve on that one.

I recommend you try the cookies as an alternative to other less healthy ones on the market. You can look at their website for more information - The Food Crafters. For now The Food Crafter’s products are available in IGA supermarkets and select health and independent food stores.  Won't be long before you see them everywhere!
